Job Seeker FAQs
What to Know
How do I find and apply for jobs with Mid-Cal Labor Solutions?
Job seekers can search current openings and submit an application and resume directly through the Mid-Cal Labor Solutions website. Once your information is in the system, Mid-Cal’s recruiting team can consider you for current openings as well as future positions that match your skills and experience.
What types of jobs and employment does Mid-Cal Labor Solutions offer?
Openings change regularly based on client needs, but Mid-Cal frequently recruits for oil and gas, construction, skilled trades, Class A driving, heavy equipment, mechanics, roustabout, environmental, tank cleaning, warehouse, forklift, manufacturing, general labor, administrative, clerical, and office positions. Depending on the client and role, employment may be temporary, project-based, seasonal, temp-to-hire, or direct-hire—a recruiter will explain the type and anticipated duration before you accept a position.
Do I have to pay Mid-Cal Labor Solutions to find me a job?
No. Job seekers never pay a fee to apply for or accept a temporary assignment—Mid-Cal’s clients pay for the staffing services provided.
How and when do I get paid?
Temporary employees are paid weekly on Friday, subject to timely submission and approval of hours. Time is submitted using the method established for the assignment, which may include a paper timecard, an electronic time clock, or an approved mobile option. Direct deposit is the preferred payment method, with pay card or paper paycheck available depending on the assignment, and employees can access pay stubs and other placement information online through the employee portal.
What happens after I apply, and what do I need for onboarding?
Recruiters review applications against current openings and may reach out for additional screening or an interview if a candidate’s skills, experience, and availability match an opportunity. Keeping contact information, resume, certifications, and availability current allows Mid-Cal to consider candidates for future roles as well. Onboarding requirements vary by assignment, and a recruiter or onboarding representative will confirm exactly what’s needed—typically documentation for employment eligibility and payroll, along with any required licenses or certifications. Some positions also require a background check, a drug test, or both, depending on client and job-site requirements.
What safety training and requirements should I expect?
Safety comes first at Mid-Cal Labor Solutions. Employees complete onboarding and general safety training before beginning an assignment, covering common workplace hazards, and clients provide any additional training specific to their worksite’s hazards, equipment, or procedures. Oilfield positions often require current safety credentials such as Passport or SafeLand along with other job-specific certifications, and Mid-Cal tracks relevant certifications to help ensure employees meet requirements before reporting to work. Required PPE is coordinated with each client, and Mid-Cal stocks and maintains access to a wide variety of protective equipment.
What should I do if I'm injured or have a problem on assignment?
For temporary staff, Mid-Cal works to provide a replacement as quickly as possible—the goal is keeping the operation staffed, not just filling the original order. Direct-hire placements include a replacement guarantee within a defined window, subject to the client agreement. Temp-to-hire allows both employer and employee to confirm fit before conversion to a permanent hire.
Who handles payroll, timekeeping, and compliance for temporary employees?
Report any workplace injury immediately to a supervisor and to Mid-Cal Labor Solutions, even if it initially seems minor, so the safety team can help coordinate next steps. For any other issue—schedule, supervisor, working conditions, paycheck, attendance, or safety—contact a Mid-Cal recruiter or office directly so it can be addressed promptly.
Does Mid-Cal Labor Solutions offer employee benefits?
Eligible temporary employees have access to employee-paid benefit options through providers such as Live Life Healthy and Essential StaffCARE, and California employees participate in applicable state-mandated programs, including CalSavers where required. Eligibility, enrollment, and cost details are available through Mid-Cal’s onboarding or payroll team.
Can a temporary assignment turn into something more?
Yes. Many positions are structured as temp-to-hire, and strong attendance, safety awareness, and job performance can lead to additional opportunities even beyond the original assignment. When an assignment ends, staying in contact with a recruiter and keeping resume, certifications, and availability current are the best ways to be considered for what’s next.
